Australian mortgage brokers facilitated a record 81.6% of all new residential home loans during the June 2026 quarter, according to the latest data from Cotality, commissioned by the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA). The result represents the highest mortgage broker market share recorded in Australia and reinforces the structural shift in how Australians access home lending.
Mortgage broker market share reached 81.6% in the June 2026 quarter, rising:
4.0 percentage points from 77.6% in June 2025
7.9 percentage points from 73.7% in June 2024
0.6 percentage points from 81.0% in March 2026
Over the past eight years, mortgage broker market share has grown by 27.7 percentage points—from 53.9% in June 2018 to 81.6% in June 2026.
Australia is now one of only three countries globally, alongside the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, where mortgage brokers facilitate more than 80% of mortgage lending.
This is a great indicator of trust that clients have in mortgage brokers to find the right solution. As rising pressures in the lending space continue to squeeze the borrowing capacities of many Australians, many more Australians are considering and speaking to brokers over going direct to their bank.
